Gaspésie and Niagara Self-Guided Tour

The third of our eastern Canada self-guided tours, the Gaspésie and Niagara Falls takes you to the Gaspésie peninsula, a remote, but beautiful region, and then back through Montreal for a short loop to the world famous Niagara Falls. Highlights of the tour include the beautiful scenery of the St Lawrence River and the Appalachian trails, the Charlevoix mountains, whale-watching and lighthouses, typical Quebecois villages and food, and of course the magnificent Niagara Falls. Days 1-8 are the same as our Gaspésie tour. Days 9-12 are a reduced version of our Quebec and Ontario tour.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrive Montreal. On arrival at Montreal Airport, take the shuttle to our tour hotel. Montreal is known as the city of 100 steeples, also known as the Northern New Orleans. Take in the old port, the Notre Dame Basilica, St Joseph’s Oratory, the underground galleries, the Biodome, the Plateau Mont-Royal and of course the Grand Prix ‘circuit’.

CAN - GN2DAY 2 Montreal – Quebec (250 km). After breakfast you are collected from your hotel to pick up the motorcycle. Once the formalities are out of the way, you’re off on a gentle ride to Quebec City. Here you can explore French Canada’s capital city, a fortress with vestiges of ‘Nouvelle France’ and a World Heritage Site.

DAY 3 Quebec – Tadoussac (220 km). You leave behind cosmopolitan Quebec and exchange it for the great outdoors. F follow the St Lawrence Seaway eastwards through the UNESCO protected Charlevoix region, with its rich natural treasures and cultural heritage. And it’s a great biking road too! Tadoussac is a famous whale-watching area, so make sure you allow time this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

CAN - GN3DAY 4 Tadoussac – Matane (200 km). Today’s ride takes you across the mighty St Lawrence seaway by ferry to the northern shores of the Gaspe Peninsula, with several imposing lighthouses. You will then cross the Matane Wildlife Reserve, and with luck your first moose. And try the shrimp, considered by many the most delectable on the planet.

DAY 5 Matane – Perce (370 km). Today’s ride is one of the possibly the best on the tour, as you explore this beautiful unspoilt region. First off are the luxuriant flora and fauna of the Chic Chocs Wildlife Reserve. Then it’s Forillon Park and on to Gaspe Bay – Canada’s birthplace, ‘discovered’ in 1534 by Jacques Cartier – and finally legendary Perce Rock.

DAY 6 Perce – New Richmond (165.km).  Allow time for a cruise to Bonaventure Island today. Then carry on round the peninsula to the seaside town of New Richmond.

DAY 7 New Richmond – Riviere du Loup (380 km). We head away from the coast and across country today to complete our circuit of the Gaspésie Peninsula, and return to the familiar St Laurence Seaway.

DAY 8 Riviere du Loup – Montreal (430 km). You final day’s ride takes you back down the St Lawrence seaway, through Quebec to Montreal. After you’ve returned your bike, we’ll take you back to our downtown hotel for your final evening. Alternatively, if you wish to ride around Montreal, we will schedule your motorcycle return for tomorrow morning. .

DAY 9 Montreal – Kingston (290 km). After breakfast you collected from your hotel to pick up the motorcycle. Once the formalities are out of the way, you’re off! As you ride with the St Lawrence seaway you’ll see hundreds of small islands – very picturesque. Kingston is a town of great historical and architectural interest, so make sure you take time to stroll along the lively waterfront district with it’s beautiful houses and old stone buildings.

DAY 10 Kingston – Niagara Falls (390 km). The ride there follows the lakeshore, before you arrive at Niagara Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Earth. And if you want to get wet, why not take a tour on the ‘Maid of the Mist’, and see Niagara from very close up?

DAY 11 Niagara Falls – Toronto (130 km). Not much riding today, but plenty of time to explore Niagara Falls and cosmopolitan Toronto. And if you want to get wet, why not take a tour on the ‘Maid of the Mist’, and see Niagara from very close up? Toronto is Canada’s financial metropolis, known as the ‘Queen City’. It has lots to offer, with great shopping, amazing museums, the CN Tower, and plenty of sporting events.

CAN - GN4DAY 12 Toronto – Montreal (550 km). A long ride today, but you should still have time to stop and enjoy the views. Take time to explore Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, with sights such as the Rideau Canal, the War Museum, the Museum of Civilizations, the Byward market and the parliament tower. After you’ve returned your bike, we’ll take you back to our downtown hotel. Alternatively, if you wish to ride around Montreal, or plan to make the most of the day and arrive back late, we will schedule your motorcycle return for tomorrow morning.

DAY 13 Depart Montreal. Take the airport shuttle for your flight home.
